Fall Community Fund Grants Announced
Over the years, Midwest Energy’s Community Fund has distributed nearly $2 million in grant funds to educational, charitable and nonprofit organizations in the Midwest Energy service area. Each of the co-op’s five service areas has a committee of two Midwest Energy employees and five to seven community members from the area which review applications and make funding decisions.
For Fall 2019, a total of 137 applications from 47 communities, representing 27 counties were received. The committees approved $98,224 for 114 projects. Of that amount, $73,244 was in the form of traditional grants up to $1,000. Also awarded were five $5,000 “Impact Grants,” one from each of the five areas. Impact Grants require a local community fund match, which varies by project. Receiving the $5,000 impact grants were:
Colby - Purchase of poverty resolution project curriculum for Northwest Kansas Core Circles.
Great Bend - New equipment and patient comfort items at Rooks County Hospital.
Hays - Arc of the Central Plains - Equipment for Accessible Recreation Complex.
Phillipsburg - Playground equipment and ground cover at the City of Norton pool.
Scott City - Weskan Community Building lighting. Applications for the Spring 2020 Community Fund grants are due March 1, 2020, and can be completed online.
