Assistance Available through Kansas Low-Income Energy Assistance Program
If you’re struggling to pay your electric or gas bills, assistance is available through the Kansas Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP).
The Kansas Department of Children and Families is hosting sign-up events throughout the state. DCF and Midwest Energy will be at the Scott County Library (110 W. 8th St., Scott City, Kan.) on February 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Great Bend Public Library (1409 Williams St., Great Bend, Kan.) on February 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Stop by for help with signing up for the program. Make sure to bring proof of income for all adults in the household and your most recent heating fuel bill. Other information may be requested. Spanish translators will be on-site.
In order to qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- An adult living at the address must be personally responsible for paying the heating costs incurred at the current residence, payable either to the landlord or the fuel vendor.
- The combined gross income (before deductions) of all persons living at the address may not exceed 150% of the federal poverty level according to the guidelines listed below:
